Discription :
The Axelrod Rasbora is a peaceful, active, schooling fish. This fish is one of the more brilliantly colored species of the genus, especially the male.Rasbora axelrodi needs a well-established, densely-planted aquarium with plenty of free swimming space available. This species does well in a community aquarium with other peaceful and similarly-sized species.Unfortunately, the Axelrod Rasbora's breeding habits in the aquarium have not been documented. An omnivore, this Rasbora does well on a diet of prepared flake food, as well as freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex.

Aquarium Care :
Both the aquarium environment and tank mates play an important role in successfully keeping the Rasbora Axelrody Blue Fish in the home aquarium. The aquarium should be either densely planted or contain areas of the aquarium that are densely planted. This will both better replicate the Rasbora Axelrody Blue  Fish natural habitat, but also give them a place to retreat to when threatened and to escape more boisterous tank mates.Tank mates also play an important role due to the shy nature of the Rasbora Axelrody Blue Fish. They need tank mates that are similar in size and disposition as themselves; as well as, tank mates that are not overly boisterous swimmers or feeders. Due to the stable nature of their natural lake habitat, the Rasbora Axelrody Blue Fish is not very tolerant of rapidly fluctuating water parameters. They will do best in calm well planted aquariums with a neutral pH and stable low to mid 70°F water temperature. Lastly, it is important to house this species as a group of 6 or more individuals, as they are a schooling species and will not do well in a pair or as a solo specimen.

Diet : Small zooplankton, such as Daphnia and Cyclops.

Water : Very sensitive. Ideally, needs an RO-based softwater system pH 5.0-7.0.

Aquarium : This quiet, delicate species needs to be housed in a shoal with small placid fishes - other small rasboras are ideal. Plant heavily and add plenty of bushy plants.

Notes :This is currently the only known Sundadanio. Not much is known about the relationships of the genus to other fishes, but they\'re currently grouped with danionins and microrasboras. Interestingly, it\'s said to make squeaking noises when disturbed.

Similar species : This species was described in 1976 as Rasbora axelrodi. There are at least two different colour forms including red, blue and green. The blue and green forms are similar, but the red one looks more different. These morphs may be distinct species. The red one is said to come from Anjungan in western Borneo, while the bluish forms are said to be from Riau, Sumatra.

Sexing : Depends on the race, but males are more colourful, usually with more blue on the flanks and darker anal and ventral fins. These are often reddish in males, but black in females.

Breeding : No published reports of aquarium spawnings as yet.
